Malambo Mutila (Zambia)

Co-Founder & Director - Data Science and Information Management

Malambo leads the data science and information management forte at EaRN. He is passionate about building algorithms and technology for health systems strengthening, climate resilience, education, and poverty alleviation.

Generating innovative ideas and insights, Malambo provides technical and thought leadership within the data science and information management team at EaRN. He spearheads the design and development of all data science and information management projects.

Before joining the Empowerment and Resilience Network (EaRN), Malambo served as a Public Health Analyst at the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) under the Global Health Corps (GHC) fellowship programme. At ZNPHI, he helped lead research projects, data analytics and the development of information management systems, to promote the dissemination and uptake of public health information.

Coming from a Mathematics background, Malambo appreciates the use of Bayesian statistics in Machine Learning and predictive modelling. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from The Copperbelt University and a master’s degree in Computer Science from ZCAS University. His master’s thesis researched Bayesian inference in data science by modelling a prediction of English Premier League match outcomes using Machine Learning and Bayes’ theorem.

Malambo was born on the Copperbelt and grew up in Lusaka and the Copperbelt itself. He is a poet who loves deciphering rap lyrics and occasionally makes music. He loves to watch tennis, with his favourite player being Novak Djokovic after Serena Williams, Sabalenka, Federer and Nadal. Just like Lighton Nyirongo, Malambo also enjoys playing football and watches football matches with the belief that Manchester United will be back on top where they belong.
